Finding Peace with God: What It Truly Means to Be Justified by Faith

Hey friend, welcome back to the Rest and Remain podcast—a small space in a big world meant to help you slow down and soak in God’s truth.
In our last episode, we talked about how we are a new creation in Christ. We looked at how, because of Jesus, we’ve been completely born again spiritually, and our sin simply doesn't get to have the final say anymore. (If you missed Part 1, I really encourage you to pause and go back to give that a read/listen first!)
Today, we are moving forward into another beautiful, foundational truth. In Romans 5:1, God shows us that because we are a new creation, we are now completely justified—and we have actual, real peace with Him.
Let's jump right into the Word together.
Key Scripture
This verse answers a question that so many of us carry deep down in our souls: Where do I actually stand with God?
The answer for those of us in Christ is simple yet profound: You are justified.
Now, "justified" is a big theological word, but it simply means you have been made completely right with God.
In Romans 3:22–24, Paul explains it this way:
“The righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by His grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Jesus Christ.”
There is no distinction—we are all on the exact same playing field. Ever since Adam and Eve took that fruit back in the garden, every single one of us has been stuck under the curse of sin, failing to meet God’s standard of perfection.
BUT the good news is that He didn’t leave us stuck.
By His grace—a completely free gift—He redeemed us through Jesus. It’s not because of your good works. It’s not because you earned it or finally became "good enough" on your own. It is simply when you put your faith in the finished work of Christ that you are made right with God and covered in His perfect righteousness.
Why Being Justified By Faith Brings Real Peace
Because of that faith, you now have true peace with God. As Romans 15:13 says, "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing..."
Notice it says joy and peace—not fear, and not separation.
Living From Acceptance, Not For Acceptance
So many believers still live as though they constantly have to prove themselves to God, stuck in an invisible trap of believing His love depends on their daily performance.
That is not the truth.
Your identity in Christ is not built on your ability to earn or keep God’s love—it is built entirely on Jesus’ finished work on the cross. You don’t have to wake up every morning wondering if God still wants you or loves you. In Christ, you are fully welcomed, forever loved, and at peace with Him right now.
This doesn’t mean we stop pursuing holiness or repentance. But it means we live from acceptance, not for acceptance.
And there is so much freedom in that.

Reflect and Pray
Take a moment today to reflect on this question:
Am I living from a place of peace, knowing I have been justified by God through His grace... or am I still struggling and striving to earn His favor?
The enemy will constantly try to whisper lies that you aren't good enough or just need to try harder. Hold tightly to reality: if Jesus is your King, you are right with God, and His love will never leave you.
A Prayer for Your Week
Lord God,
Thank You for the gift of Your grace, which You have poured over us so freely. Thank You that our identity is not attached to our sinful, broken past or present struggles, but is rooted in who You say we are and the immense price You paid to redeem us. Remind our hearts today that we have been justified by faith, and that because of Jesus, we have true, unshakable peace with You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
