Today, we are wrapping up our short series on our identity in Christ! If you missed our deep dives into becoming a new creation or finding true peace with God, I highly encourage you to catch up on those foundational truths.
Today, we are looking at Colossians 1:13–14 to discover what it truly means to be rescued and redeemed.

Why Being Rescued and Redeemed Changes Everything
Can we pause for a minute and really think about what it means to be delivered from the dominion of darkness?
After sin entered the world, we were utterly lost and completely without hope. There was absolutely nothing we could do on our own to fix the separation sin created between us and God. To put it plainly, we were headed for hell and entirely powerless to stop it. We needed someone to step in and save us.
So God, in His rich mercy, didn’t abandon us.
Instead, He transferred us out of the darkness and brought us into Jesus’ Kingdom by sending His perfect Son to rescue us.
Notice that this wasn’t just about being saved from punishment—it was about being completely restored to our original value and true identity. Because of Jesus, your identity is no longer tied to sin, hopelessness, or bondage. It is forever established in a new, eternal Kingdom of light, life, and true freedom.
What Redemption Really Means for You
In verse 14, Paul writes: "In Him we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."
Redemption simply means we have been bought back, restored, and claimed.
When lies whisper that you aren't enough, remember what God's Word says:
You are not abandoned.
You are not forgotten.
You are not too far gone.
You belong to Jesus.
When we truly grasp that we are rescued and redeemed, it changes the way we live. We stop living like people who are still trapped in darkness and begin walking as true children of God.
Growing into the Character of Christ
In 2 Peter 1:3–11, Peter paints a powerful picture of how this reality plays out in our everyday lives. He reminds us that God's divine power has granted us everything we need for life and godliness.
Because we have escaped the corruption of the world, we are called to intentionally grow—adding virtue, knowledge, self-control, steadfastness, and brotherly love to our faith. When we keep these qualities increasing, they keep us from being ineffective or unfruitful.
Living as someone who is rescued and redeemed means waking up daily and choosing to walk in the light we've been given.

A Prayer for Your Week
Lord God, thank You for these truths of who we are because of You. Thank You for speaking an identity over us that reminds us of our true value and that we belong to You. Thank You for sending Jesus to rescue us from our sin, and for giving us the beautiful hope of eternity with You. Teach us to confidently walk in who You say we are and silence the lies of the enemy. In Jesus' name, Amen.
